Having a new puppy in the house can be a wonderful experience. One of the only drawbacks that is generally experienced by those with a new dog in the house is that of getting it to the point where it is house trained. House training a dog does not need to be a difficult thing, however, if you just use one or more of the following methods. By being persistent, your dog will soon learn that it is unacceptable for it to go to the bathroom inside the house.
One of the most popular methods of house training a dog is known as paper training. This is where you would put some newspaper down by the back door and teach your dog that whenever it needs to go to the bathroom it needs to go to the door. Although your dog will no doubt have a difficult time being able to hold it until you get to the area, the newspapers will help to catch any mistakes that might happen. Eventually the newspaper can be removed and your dog will know that it must go to the back door, and then outside in order to relieve itself.
Another way that is very popular for house training a dog is crate training. This is especially helpful if you have to leave the dog on its own for an hour or more during the day. Many people feel that crate training is cruel behavior but the dog will actually come to enjoy its own little space. One of the best things is that it will typically not go to the bathroom inside the crate because that becomes its own personal space. When you take your dog out of the crate upon coming home, take it directly outside and it will soon become conditioned to only go to the bathroom outside.
House training a dog does not need to be a difficult task. If you're persistent in your efforts and use positive reinforcement in order to teach the dog it will not take very long before it does not have any accidents in the house any longer.
